(And quickly locked back up shortly after he got out) And i really don't see croc working with Batman, a lot of the "super villains" don't seem to work well with anyone they aren't bossing around. Especially someone they hate.

Yes but he didn't in Origins & if you recall the story Zassz tells over the phone he mentions the beer bottle monocle wasn't a thing yet. & as mentioned I said start where origins left off. They can introduce Dent, Robin (Dick Grayson) & really ramp up the detective aspect of the Batman character.
